Through 6 games in 2007, Lester has 4 int's. He's the leader of a defense that has surrendered just 45 points in 6 games."He's a physical defensive back," Coach Watson says. "He's been a two-year starter for us and he's made all the calls and checks for our defense. He's a smart player. He's gifted enough to make corner. In fact, some of the schools wanted him as a boundary corner. Others like him as a safety. Some even think he might grow into an outside linebacker. It all just depends on the system and how the coaches feel he'll fit in once he gets there." |

Green was a shutdown cornerback for one of the top defenses in the state as a junior. He picked off 4 passes, broke up 15 more and logged 30 tackles for powerhouse John Curtis; he benches 295 pounds, squats 410 and has a 33-inch vertical jump. According to Green, the decision was based on what the University can provide him off the field as well as what the Tide coaching staff can help him accomplish on it. "There are a lot of things about Alabama that made sense," he says. "First of all, they have great academic support. That's the first thing that I thought about when I wanted to make the decision. Then there's the coaching staff. I love the staff at Alabama. I went to their camp last summer and was very impressed working with Coach Saban. He's very, very intense and I like that. But the big thing is that all of the coaches at Alabama, especially Coach Saban, are hands-on coaches. They work hard on you. I'm committed now and I know what I have to do to play next season," he says. "Alabama has said that a freshman is more than likely going to start at one of the corner spots sometime next season, so I have to go in, work hard and show them that I can be the one."
Green, who ranks as one of the south's top corners, ended his senior season with 45 tackles, 4 interceptions & 2 fumble recoveries in helping John Curtis repeat as the state's 2A champion. He carries a 2.8 and scored a 17 on the ACT. He will officially visit Alabama on January 11. Green's father, Robby Green, Sr., played for LSU in the 1980s. Green picked the Tide over Arizona State, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss and Penn State, among others. |

Lawrence also had 30 receptions for 772 yards and 11 TDs. He also returned 5 kick-offs and 1 punt for TDs. Says Lawrence, "I have good speed and am tough. I can press and jump and am really athletic, but I need to improve on my technique and precision, especially with my hands. It's big, real big, that Coach Saban coaches the defensive backs," Lawrence says. "To have the head coach coaching your position really helped with me. Coach Saban is one of the best defensive back coaches in the country. He is an expert. He can help me reach my potential." Says his HS Coach, "Alonzo is one of the best athletes that I have ever coached. He can return kicks and punts, play WR or DB. He is as talented as his older brother Co-Eric, but a bit more physical." |

One reason Smith's stats were down was that some of his games were played in poor weather conditions. "Another reason for my punting average was because I had to pooch-punt quite a few times & it drove my average down," says Smith, who is noted for having a strong leg. Jamar is your typical SEC tailback -- he's big, strong, and he's got the speed to get to the corner. He's really a FB, but his team used him as a RB. Sometimes he'd line up in the one-back as well. Other times, he would be in a 2-back set. To show you what kind athlete he is, his freshman year he was at TB. As a sophomore, he was used at OLB on his HS state championship team. He was a 1st Team All-State selection at FB by the Mississippi Coaches Association for the 2005 season. "He's one of the smoothest receivers I've ever coached," Maloof told TI on Monday. "He can do anything. He can play quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back… anything. He's just a special athlete. He's good enough to play on either side of the ball in college," Maloof said. "Alabama likes him primarily as a receiver." Hanks, who had offers from UAB, Houston, Kent State and Jacksonville State, chose the Tide for many reasons. "Tradition… Coach Saban… the players there now… the environment… there are many reasons to pick Alabama," Hanks says. "It was the obvious thing for me to do." Missed all but 5 games of his junior season after suffering a broken leg. Still managed to collect 378 yds receiving and 2 TDs. He is not a burner but his acceleration is very quick and he is smooth in running allowing him to keep his full speed going through arm tackles. In the state title game in 2005, Gibson finished the game with 7 catches for 50 yds and 1 TD. His junior season was impressive with 43 catches for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns. Gibson was named the Most Valuable Receiver for the Bulldogs and made the All-State team as an Athlete. A 5A All-State selection, Gibson says he had 48 catches for 795 yards and 8 TDs as a senior.
